4.0 out of 5 stars Switch the too-thick strap. Great pilot styling, April 29, 2015

    *********
Update: I've added pics of the watch with the original strap for those that wanted to see it.
    *********
I've had my eye on a Pilot/Flieger style watch for a while. Although there are a few low cost alternatives out there, such as the TICINO or LACO or MARATAC, this Citizen is a great alternative. Although it isn't a straight replica, it does have many Flieger/Pilot design clues such as the shape of the hands and having the minutes more pronounced than the hours –but you can see all that from the images. Now on to the review.

    SIZE
As far as size goes, this is on the bigger side at 44/45mm and I would not recommend this watch for anyone that has a smaller wrist than 7." But it's not Invicta large –fits well in the larger fashion watch era we're currently in.

    LUME
The Lume (located only on the Hour and Minutes hands) is a nice blue color and activates quickly, but don't expect it to last too long. You might be able to see it 20-30 mins into a dark movie theater.

    STRAP
The strap is the weak point of the watch. It's a nice honey-brown color with contrasting black edging. But the darn thing is THICK. Another reviewer mentioned that it's too thick to properly strap on and loop through, and I agree 100%. It might get softer with wear and age, but after 2 weeks of constant wear I didn't see too much of an improvement. Instead I opted to switch a strap a similar colored NATO (as seen in my pics) the comfort is much better and I'm no longer thinking about the strap, but the beautiful watch I have on my wrist.

    _____
All in all it's a great looking watch, with great quality that you will enjoy wearing –just so long as you change the strap.

4.0 out of 5 stars Big Watch, June 16, 2014

I saw this watch, instantly loved the face and ordered it from Amazon. As I waited for it to ship I began to check it out online and what others had said about it. The one thing that I saw was that the watch diameter is bigger than others. When I received the watch, this was in fact the case. I also own Citizen BV1080-18A and a BV1085-14E and this watch felt much bigger on my wrist than either of these two - and huge when compared with my Weekender. It might be a bit of perception, but the inner bezel of the watch with the minute markers seems excessively large and unnecessary, especially when compared to the 1085. I would have preferred to have little to no bezel on the inside, and expand the face of the watch. But it's something I felt someone buying the watch be aware of. You can also see in the picture that the hour markers are also set just a little below the minute marker, it is a stylistic choice but one I am ok with. I enjoy the 3 day feature, makes it very easy to see what the day is contrary to my initial thought, plus it isn't set back from the face much like my other Citizen watches. I have to applaud Citizen because you cannot tell where solar panels are in this watch.

Aside from the large overall size of the watch, a few other things I noticed that were different from the picture: 1) The band is nice, but not much like pictured. It doesn't quite have the texture. If you have a Citizen watch in this price range is it the same band, but a little thicker. I have changed the band, but this one is still nice and I don't have much issue with it. 2) The face is a little lighter gray than pictured, but the colors still pop off of the face pretty well, it's fairly easy to tell time on the watch. 3) I saw this mentioned to other forums, but only the hour and minute hands have any lume in the dark. This is contrary to my other Citizens where at least some of the hour markers have lume. With the largess of the face, it would be nice to have other lume on the face. I do like this watch, the size was only a minor setback. If you don't have a problem with larger watches and like the look of this watch I highly recommend it.

This is the 4th Eco-drive I own. This is a nicely sized and styled watch! I like the band, but wish it was a bit darker, but it seems thick and of decent quality.I do wish the second hand was a bit easier to see against the face (maybe white, or with a white tip) but this is a small nit to pick.I like that it is a bit more dressy than my typical watches with this band, but I love the durability and water resistance of my Citizen watches and believe it will look great with a NATO-style band and plan to switch soon.

So far two weeks in Ive used the watch for everything except scuba, this watch has kept time to the second so far with out a lost or gain according to sync with the website Time is.com My road biking has put the watch out to sunlight avarage four hours per day, Eco-drive is the BEST way to go with a watch" this is my third Citizen. Think about paying a service fee of $300-500 for a submariner every 3 to 5 years? Wow. The cell in this Citizen is good for 10 years, sealed from factory" Ill be reviewing this watch after my trip to Guam for scuba if not sooner from the Florida east coast. Very comfortable fit and great looking all around. I dont understand why someone would pay thousands of dollars for a watch when the BEST is an Eco-drive under $300. My mountain bike is a spcialize $3200 and that is well worth it for the ride and beating it takes but a watch under $300 ZERO maintenance for avarage 10 years! this should not be a mathmatical decision. It is simply the best! This Citizen dive promaster 200m replaces my 1979 Seiko sports 150 analog/digital chronograph tachymeter for scuba.

Terrific watch. I like a highly visible face and this watch makes the time very clear. Eco-drive equals no battery wearing out. I have another eco-drive from Citizen that's over 10 years old, it keeps perfect time and has never needed maintenance. That it's waterproof to over 600 feet is iceing on the cake. Price was a bargain.

5.0 out of 5 stars but thiswatch is worthy of my time, November 6, 2016
    Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Citizen Men's BN0150-28E Promaster Diver Analog Japanese Quartz Black Watch (Watch)
I don't often review products, but this watch is worthy of my time.

I've worn divers watches as an "everyday" watch since '68 when the jungle, heat, humidity and monsoon rain in Viet Nam ate up two lesser offerings to the clock gods in less than a month. That first divers watch sold me on the value of a simple analog watch with big, easily read hands, with passive illumination that these 70 year old eyes can see in the middle of the night without glasses.

By "everyday" watch, I mean a watch that I rarely remove whether I'm showering, sleeping, working on the property, fussing with equipment, fishing including cleaning the days catch or gutting a fresh killed deer ( I've lost a couple of decent watches over the years by forgetting to put them back on after those type of activities).

My last divers watch started losing time even after the battery was replaced (twice). I would have replaced the 5 year old watch with the same make and model as it was cheap enough even though it's obvious they don't keep on ticking like they used to, but that company doesn't make that style any more. I did buy a different watch from the maker but just flat out didn't like it.

So now, we come to this watch. It's a bit more expensive than I would normally spend on my everyday watch, but after researching all the offerings out there, this was my choice...The price is right for a dive watch of this quality.

The watch is the right size. I'm 6'1" and 215 lbs with probably average sized wrists and it looks good on.
The one way bezel has no projections that can get bumped to change your setting.
The hands are large and easy to read.
The lume is bright enough for me to tell the time at oh-dark-thirty even after several hours of sleep, but that may be a result of the habit of charging the lume with the mini-mag flashlight I keep on my nightstand just before turning out the lights.
The crown at 4 o'clock is a major plus as I no longer have the crown digging into my wrist when my hand is in an awkward position.
Not requiring a battery is/was a major selling point for me...no added expense of the cost of a battery or installation fee or no worrying about the seal leaking is worth the piece of mind.

I've only had the watch for 11 days and I initially set it via the atomic clock...when I changed to standard time today, I noticed the watch had not deviated one iota from the setting...no loss, no gain. I'm pretty anal about accuracy on my watches...this guy beats all the others, including two of the famous Swiss made dress watches I own.

Only two minor points that affect my viewpoint about this watch. The date window is very small and hard to read, but I generally don't use the date on my watches; shoot, I know what day it is.

The watch strap is not exactly to my liking...it will fit over a wet suit but it's just a little too stiff for my tastes and though not a fault of the manufacturer (more the fault of my exact wrist size), it's too tight on the hole where the watch doesn't slip around and too loose on the next keeper hole. I did elongate the too tight hole, but I'll be changing to a NATO band. By the way, the no decompression limits printed on the band don't match what the charts or a dive computer says...I wouldn't use it.

This is not a watch with a lot of bells and whistles, but a functional, easy to read (day or night), and accurate timepiece that looks good and fits a pretty active lifestyle. I no longer dive or snorkel but if I did, I wouldn't hesitate using this watch.

If you want/need a watch to measure lap/split times, to wake you up, to remind you when to take a drink, has a lot of buttons, yadda, yadda look for something else.
